Who Needs a Licence? If you live in Queensland, are visiting from interstate or overseas, or anyone who is in charge of a vessel with a motor over 6hp - YOU MUST HAVE A BOAT LICENCE. Queensland Transport recognises Boat Licences issued from other Australian states but does not recognise overseas licences. Some states do not have separate PWC licences. Visitors to Quensland are required to upgrade their Boat Licence prior to operating a PWC. Courses are usually conducted as a 6.5 hour one-day course. The courses involves approximately 5.5 hours of theory followed by 1 hour of practical training. A Qualified Commercial Skipper carries out all training. Practical training is carried on-board one of our approved commercial training vessels. North Queensland Maritime supplies all course materials and vessels for this course. ![]() |
